Watchlopnik: first watch I've bought in over a decade

I got to looking at watches I could get for pretty cheap last week. None of the beautiful vintage stuff. Just what I could get for under a hundred bucks, if I saw something liked.

I haven't had a stainless-case chrono in well over a decade, and I found this one (~$275 retail?) for $90 and thought, what the hell. If I were buying with more serious dollars, Autodromo makes the kind of stuff I'd want. If I were buying vintage without a budget, well... it'd be a different story.

But I actually like Seiko. They've changed their bands and links a lot, and I'm not sold on this one (pain in the ass to remove links and fit it), but I like the cleanliness of it. It's a little more dainty than I'd have wished, but it still feels like a Grand Prix movie from the late 60s in a way. The band doesn't fit the body as well as I'd like. I'm tempted to put my angle grinder to the edges. But the paint and the crystal are very, very pretty, and the graphics are really nice for a mainstream watch.

Check back in 10 years and we'll see how it's done.

Those are solid watches, I have a similar one and I love it! That one looks great too; very similar to a TAG Carrera. Great buy!

Very cool. I remember my Dad wearing Seikos when I was a kid. Many years later - now about 10 years ago - I bought him a Seiko dive watch. He's still wearing it. I will always have a soft spot for Seiko.

I think I have that watch's titanium brother. Best watch I've ever owned. For the money, it's really hard to beat a Seiko.
